Grounding, Grounding and still more Grounding!

Well, I just took the long time advice of RR and many others on this forum. I just spent the past two days grounding the muck outta' my Ford pickemup truck. Bought some braided tinned grounding strap and went to work from front to back and side to side, top to bottom. Made chokes and attached them to wires coming from the fuel pump and other places. I now have far less noise coming in through my antenna from the fuel pump etc, and much less ground noise. The receive has improved incredibley, so has my transmit. I can't believe what a difference the grounding has made.

I also can tell you, this Grant XL I just bought from Mdillion is an awsome radio.

I put together a Predator 10k with a 27" shaft, two of the long coils and the stinger cut down to around 8 to 10" - awsome!

I am finally very satisfied with my mobile set up.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

I can't stress enough the need to GROUND GROUND GROUND anything and everything, it can only make your mobile more like a rolling base station.

Hello Hossless:

Good deal. I also have a Ford Truck, that was a little noisey.

I installed old RG-8 Coax Braid, as ground strap wire, from the fenders to the fire wall, to the Hood it helped a bunch attunating the engine noise.

Its always great to hear from someone who has actually reduced or fixed some noise problems.

Hey Jay, yes grounding is sooooo important if you really want an awsome tx'ing and rx'ing mobile station.

Take care, Hossless

Hey Doc, what are ground loop problems?

I know alot of people who run mobile setups that don't do enough grounding (that was me). Mainly grounding alternator, antenna mount, battery and maybe a wee bit more.

For me that wasn't enough. I've got all the body parts and most of the electrical components on the pickemup grounded to frame now, and it has made a world of difference. I've never heard of too much grounding. But I guess anything can be taken to the extreme.

Thanks, Hossless
