I recently installed a skip shooter double barrel on a 2003 Jeep grand Cherokee and my swr is around4.0 -4.5. My setup is a president Walker 3 and a KL20. 3' of RG8X to the kl203 then 18' to a firestick K-4DD roof mount stud mounted 18" from the hatch then the 38" skipshooter double barrel. SWR is 4.0 - 4.5 across the board with or without the KL203. I removed the skipshooter and replaced it with a 102" SS whip and had 1.5 swr across the board. anything I can do with the skipshooter or should I look for something else?

I would but I have a stud in my roof on a jeep with a 4" lift it's way to high. I installed a Tram 3700 today swr1.3 barefoot 2.0 with KL203. Its working but not a big fan of the KL203 so far. FM doesn't work very good and the AM limiter in the walker3 doesn't help things.

Just talking from personal experience but i would use the 102" ss whip mounted on the rear bumper which on that jeep should be steel, you will still get decent swr's, the only problem i can see would be that your transmit signal would be stronger on the diagonal from rear to front, but should work fine.

Jeep has plastic bumpers its a 2003 Grand Cherokee I could make use a bracket to come out above the rear tail light. I originally had it there thought i didn't have enough ground plane. The tram seems to work the skip shooter did seem to have more receive.

Just my thoughts on the situation but you would probably get better results that way.

That’s the same way I had it originally on my 4Runner. SWR was pretty good too.

I had a piece of flat iron just above the taillight. I tried a long whip off of an old wilson mag mount just for the hell of it 10.0 swr. I did notice dust coming out of the hole in the top of the glass whip looks like maybe corrosion in there I tried to clean it out put it back on the mount with the stinger extended 5.5 swr. Antenna was bought in in April and stored in my dry basement. I emailed Skip shooter waiting to hear back. I will probably leave the tram 3700 on there seems to work fairly well.

The SWR of an antenna system is just that. Doesn't matter if you have just a watt or so, or much more, if the antenna is rated for the power level. A lot of SWR meters won't handle more than a hundred watts or so, and if your meter needs to be adjusted for full scale each time you change power and then switched to "SWR", you're getting a reading of reflected power, not really SWR.

Ham radio operators (VHF/UHF) should pay attention to enhanced radio propagation paths throughout the middle latitudes and equatorial region, a common occurrence following such events. :coffee: (y)

Had "Aurora" propagation on CW/SSB on 6m last evening. (300-700m range here) The 2m guys had lots of Ducting/TROPO between the East Coast and Gulf Coast op's, even early today.
