I have a relatively low bandwidth internet connection even though it is ADSL. My son is using his buddies US Netflix account despite me telling him to dump it. I cannot even watch a Youtube video when he is streaming and it slows done my other son's X-Box activities. In short it bogs down everybody else that is online regardless of their activities. I can block Netflix easily thru the router keyword blocking function HOWEVER it only works for PC\s, smartphones and tablets and NOT his X-Box 360 which uses a Netflix app. If I could find out how the app connects or what domain I need to block I may be OK. If I tighten up the filters using Net Genie I can block it on his X-Box however EVERYONE looses Facebook, Youtube, and many other social media and video sites including news sites that have videos and this is not acceptable. Does anyone know HOW the Netflix app connects thru the X-Box 360?

    Get a dish for internet/TV.
Too may "pups for the teats" as it is right now - so to speak.
It will only get worse in the future.

I have satellite television now. That has nothing to do with my ADSL internet connection. My internet is fine for everything but streaming video. I need to block Netflix via X-Box and everything will be OK until Fiber Op is run out here.Satellite internet is crazy expensive just to solve this issue.

You can set up parental controls on the Xbox 360 for Netflix. I don't think you can completely block it but you can set it up to allow only G rated movies. That might cramp his style enough to get him to stop watching.

It' not WHAT he is watching but just he fact he is bogging down my internet connection and screwing anyone else that happens to be online.Pretty much everything he watches is already either G or PG anyway.

You're think over this too hard. Your house should have mains trip switches, or plug in fuses. When you need to use the internet find the breaker for his room and trip it. If he protests tell him to get a job or move out.

It seems net flix streams their video from several sources so blocking on IP or MAC address will not stop or limit the bandwidth usage.

I had same issues when my son was in his teens, I did away with wireless router and used Ethernet cables routed to the rooms.

When I wanted to view something and the kids were using the bandwidth, I just unplugged them from the router which was conveniently located in my study.

Another option is to get an adapter and let him use his cell as a modem to watch his movies on, providing their is unlimited data on the plan.

    Good luck.

Or i could just use his X-Box as a wheel chock however I prefer to simply block it and take total control over the internet. As for the get job or move out comment, how old is he since you seem to have the answer? I'll tell you, he is still in school albeit community college beginning this fall. Getting a job will not cure the issue BTW.

Network is wireless so no cables to unplug. Routing ethernet cables thru a two story home is daunting at best and not happening. Tried blocking a whole set of netflxhns addresses but so far no go. I pay for all four cell phones in use within the family and have a quite adequate data package but certainly not unlimited data.

Problem solved. I needed to dig deeper into the Net Genie's Open DNS site and use the parental controls and use domain blocking. Netflix and only Netflix is now blocked on any and all devices in the house including X-Boxes.

Glad you got it worked out and YES two story houses can be a pain to run Ethernet cable sin,
