I just bought a 98 Ford Ranger and would like to know (without butchering a wiring harness) where one could pull a hot for the radio. This truck ain't quiet like my old 79 Chevy.

Thanks

Battery is my first choice. Second would be either tapping the cig lighter wires or use a fuse tapper in the fuse box.

Just a note for you or anyone using a cigarette lighter for power--I used mine for a while in my Jeep cherokee and It never worked right because the ground was insufficient. I was seeing about 5 watts out of a galaxy 88. Thats how bad the ground was. Just make sure that the radio is properly grounded. I use the seat post bolt for a ground -and I also went to the fuse panel.

Thanks for the replies.

Doc, I was going to use a blue flame heat wrench untill the wife caught me. Looks like the Battery is 1ST choice with everyone. That it will be.

Thanks again

RF, thanks for the offer. I live in Waco, just south about 100 miles. If I ever get off when there is still daylight, I will get the thing hooked up. Right now I running a stock 25LTD classic pluged into the accessory power port with a K40 mag antenna. I really miss my Magnum 257 and heater, but it will come.

Thanks again

Run the direct "power" line straight to the battery. Use the same gauge wire, or heavier, to the battery. Run the ground to a bolt, maybe one of the seat bolts. Any bolt that is going into the body/frame of the vehicle. I have found this works the best. You can also run the ground straight to the negative post of the battery if you like. Just a couple thoughts.
