Rubber Ducky antennas ; anyone check the swr on one these on the MURS freq's.

I found 3 different antennas with over 3 to 1 swr. I believe they are tuned for 144 - 148 meg .

This would realy handicap a HT on MURS I think.

Anyone got any Ideas on how to tune one?

How are you guy's checking SWR's on "Duckies" ? Off the radio will give false readings since it will be checked with a different "ground plane" ie: radio case and person holding HT. If the meter is directly in line between the HT and antenna, you have to some way figure in the loss and again a different ground plane because of the meter under the antenna. There is probably a way to do it, I just can't think how it would be done.

OK, makes sense to me.
Quote:
Seems a good handheld antenna is a real challenge.

The little hand held yagi's work well but a little anoying when trying to clip it all to your belt. Can't remember what brand/model#, but I have one of those about as big around as a tooth pick and 15-17 inches long and it made a BIG difference. When the HT is on the belt, I just fold the antenna over and stick the end in my pocket or tie it into a knot.

This place here: www.htantennas.com will make you an antenna for any frequency you want with any connector on it. They already have some listed that will cover MURS. And the best part....They're CHEEEAAAP!!
