Yes, I've done that numerous times. I bought 3 separate USB programming cables. A few people in the comments mentioned it worked with Win 11. I haven't had any luck.

I went ahead and purchased the "official" USB-1 cable from Uniden, still a nopey. Now, the USB-1 works great on my older laptop running Win 10. It's just getting old and has a pixel out in the middle of the screen that irritates me. I just bought a new Lenovo laptop running Win 11. Just wish it'd work on it.

I have some tech support emails out with no response yet. They've had this model out for years and alway stuff a DB-9 in the box. They must've made a million of those cables. There still tons of hams running that old stuff. Not a darn thing wrong with it, just help a brother out that has modern crap.

I ran across an article that I'm trying to find again. Somehow, the guy knew how to get it to work. There were 3 people declaring him the Messiah for figuring it out. He linked a page that was in Japanese. I changed the language and found the golden file, but did nothing when I clicked it, plus it was 32 bit.

I've had this same scanner in the past. I'm only using it for airband reception, which is my new hobby. I have over 200 frequencies in listen too, but these are fun to program manually.

I suppose I can slap Win 10 on my new Lenovo and be done with it.

The Solution for PL2303 Driver is Unavailable in Windows 11 ...

To install a USB-1 PL2303 driver on Windows 11, you may need to use a specific driver version, as Windows 11 doesn't always support older chipsets. Begin by identifying your chipset (e.g., PL2303TA) and downloading a compatible driver, such as version 3.8.38.2 or a Legacy driver, from a reputable source like Prolific's official site or the GitHub repository. You can manually install the driver via Device Manager by browsing for the downloaded driver files and selecting the INF file, or by installing an executable file and then updating the driver in Device Manager.

1. Identify Your PL2303 Chipset
  • Older PL2303 chipsets, such as the PL2303TA/TB/HXD, may require specific legacy drivers because they were not designed for Windows 11.
  • You may need to download and run the PL2303 CheckChipVersion tool (from sources like Adafruit or the GitHub repository) to determine which version your device uses.
2. Download a Compatible Driver
Download the driver directly from Prolific's official website or from a trusted manufacturer's site like Plugable Technologies.

You may need an older, legacy driver. Look for drivers on sites like GitHub which provide versions compatible with Windows 11.

3. Install the Driver
  • Method 1: Using the Driver Installer
    1. Extract the contents of the downloaded driver file if it is a ZIP.
  • Locate and run the executable (.exe) file from the extracted folder.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  • Open Device Manager (by searching for it in the Start Menu).
  • Locate the PL2303 device, right-click it, and select "Update driver".

  • Choose "Browse my computer for drivers" and point it to the driver's folder.
  • Open Device Manager and find the PL2303 device, which may have a yellow exclamation mark.

  • Right-click the device and select "Update driver".

  • Select "Browse my computer for drivers" and then "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

  • Click "Have Disk..." and browse to the location of the downloaded driver's folder to select the .inf file.
4. Check in Device Manager
  • After installation, open Device Manager and find the device listed under Ports (COM & LPT).
  • The device should now be recognized and working correctly, without any errors.
