Well if I had the money to buy it maybe these:

ICOM IC-756PRO for a BASE

ICOM 706IIG / AH4 for a MOBIL

Of corse all of the bells and whistles for each rig.

I like the KENWOOD, YAESU, AND ALINCO also.

I have IC-2710H dual bander in mobil

Just passed my technician test last week so I don`t have a favorite radio yet. I did manage to pick up a Yaesu FT-50R. Still shopping for a dual bander for the mobile. Seems it`s taking me a lot longer to decide on a radio than it did to study and take the test.

My favorite, and I never should have traded it in, was an old Johnson Viking II (with the modulator removed - had to use code) and a Hammarlund receiver with a straight key & knife switch to make me EARN my contacts! Nothing like firing up those big ol' boat anchors and watching 'em glow in the dark. Had wonderful conversations at 5-8 wpm, lasted up to an hour for a few sentences to get across, but what a way to spend an evening -- met the nicest people, talking a language unknown to my way-too-wild peers! Took about 10-15 minutes to change bands, but with a G5RV up on the roof at least I didn't have to swap out antennas! Come to think of it, I had a neat little random wire tuner too, and downgraded everything by "upgrading" to all the bells and whistles. Don't know if I'll ever return to boat anchors, but I'm into the kits now and headed for something I can at least say I built myself.

73s, thanks for that question -- brought back some memories...

I've had a few over the years but my favorite has

been a TS-850. I've had one since they first came

out and haven't found another radio (that I could

afford) that ever came close to it's receiver. It's had

problems a few times, but I have to admit that one

or two of them were fault of the idiot running the

thing, not the manufacturer.

PS - Besides, everybody knows that if you ain't got

a Kenwood, you got squat!

Hi, 'Doc. I just picked up a Kenwood TM-G707A 2m/440 rig the other day and I must say it is pretty sweet for the price. I'm fixin to do the extended RX and TX mods before I program all my frequencies in.

I own a 707 and love it. The only problem I have had is that every once in a while it likes to shut off! More of a nusiance than anything. I only did the receive mod. No reason to open the x-mit for me. The only reason I can see for opening the transmit is for mars-cap use or if you want to talk on FRS.

Anyways, as for my favorite.... kinda hard to choose. Both my FT-920 and FT-900 have been excellent rigs. Have the 900 mobile, with the 707. Also have an FT-8100 and an IC-271A 2m all-mode in the house along with the 920. Not to mention the 2510 and 2600. Now I can't wait till I can afford the FT-100D in a few months to go in the car!

All great rigs, and I love them all equally actually.
