    Nomad, shockwave, TMZ, Andy!!!

If we ask ourselves a question and don't know the answer, it's because the information we need isn't in our brain's memory (database). AI works the same way. It can't give you a specific answer if it the data isn't in its memory. This is because AI is in its infancy. Just like a human brain gets...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Didn't have much time for radioin' today, but clicked on the cobra around noon and hooked up with WR754 in the California high desert. "Ralphie" and I talked a lot 10 years ago, but this was the first time this cycle. Booming 9+ signal into Colombia. Good half hour QSO before conditions started...

    Our Friend Marconi

Marconi, even though I never got to meet you and shake your hand, you were always a good friend and mentor. Knowing we can't QSO with Old Grandpa anymore leaves a empty space in all our lives. RIP, Eddie. - J.J.

    11 meter is very quiet?

I was in the shop working on a new project most of the day. Nothing but static on every channel. But then at about 4pm I heard 609 out of Texas. Old Brad was running his weekly radio roundup on ch 37. 5 to 7 and loud. When I turned my RF Gain up he was in the red. His 5 element and my 4 element...

Where can I get MFJ parts ??

I was given an MFJ antenna tuner. The owner ran too much power through it. and the slider arched with the tuning coil. I can resurrect the coil, but the slider contact is toasted. I tried to contact MFJ but no reply. Any idea where I can get this part ?? J.J. 399

    11 meter is very quiet?

Whiteastro - I don't recall you saying how tall your antenna is. Antennas work best when the base of the antenna is at least one full wavelength above ground. 36' for 11 meters. Also Stardusters need a 10 foot steel mast below the antenna to function properly. If your setup meets these...

Traffic light led noise and such

What surprised me was the distance a single LED light bulb can throw its inteference. Every light bulb in our farm house is an LED. I replaced all of the incandescent bulbs some time ago to reduce our electric bill. Keeping the lights in my shack/shop off when I'm on the radio knocked the...

Still thunderstorming from morning to night. But I don't think I missed anything since BC Coyote's Propagation screenshot showed not a single signal eminating from Colombia. - J.J. 399

    11 meter is very quiet?

whiteastro - Tried calling you all day on 38 & 40 but no dice. Pretty much dead, except for the ocassional QSO with a station who managed to break through. Late afternoon SouthEast corner (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and both Carolinas.) Not much trafffic, so solid contacts. Early...

    Cobra 139XLR and a 142GTL

I agree 100%. The 139XLR (Uniden 858SSb chassis) is by far the better of the two. It was only produced for 3 years ('76 - '78). I run a 139xlr that I bought new. Best Cobra base ever. Because it could be easily modified to exceed FCC limits for output power, modulation, and frequency range...

Good Dxin' today up until 2PM. Pretty much everywhere west of the Mississippi. 7 to 9 from every state. Even California. Shut down at 2pm to get some lunch, and when I got back around 3. . . Neg-Nada A little later our daily thunderstorm rolled in and it was disconnect the antenna time...

    Tornado again

LSB - I feel your pain. Lost three antennas to a violent windstorm 10 years ago and just got back on the air this last July. The important thing is that no one was hurt, and the house only suffered minimal damage. God was with you. - J.J.

    Kenwood TS-430S repair

I have a Kenwood TS-430S transceiver that I want to have checked out and brought up to 100%. I looked at the Kenwood on-line site and checked for authorized repair . Their list of international repair centers has not been updated since 2003 and is worthless. I am looking for a company or an...

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

We.ve been using BAOFENG UV5R hand helds on our farm's base, both mobiles, and one for each of our workers. All bought in 2009. 9 total. The 5 used by our workers are pretty shabby looking, because life isn't harder on a radio then when it's hanging from a Colombian farm worker's belt all day...
