I'm thinking of upgrading my coax in my mobile to this LMR-400. Just wondering if this is a worthwhile upgrade from the standard rg/8. Will it lower the SWR at all? It looks pretty beefy, and I would think it would be a good match for the mobile, and the Stryker 955.

Mobile installs don't require enough length to benefit from such coax as long as it's not a power handling issue.

The last place I would want a solid conductor type cable like LMR-400 is in a vibrating mobile environment. Changing out your cable will not improve your SWR unless the previous cable was causing a problem in the first place. Also as 359 said, a mobile does not have enough cable length to creat any noticeable losses. If you run so much power that you need a bigger cable there are better choices that are much more flexible.

my opinion its too short to completly benefit from the super hi grade coax
i run a predator 10k and my swr is low and has enhanced my receive

With such a short run you certainly would not benefit from the upgrade at all as far as line loss ETC. IU couldnt even say its worth bragging rights because most people would say it was just plain pointless or foolish. The RG8U is fine for any mobile install unless your running big power.

I won't bother giving the same answer the others have already given, I figure you've got that one answered. As for lowering the SWR with the feed line, that just isn't the best way of doing it. Sure, you can do it that way, but it just moves the 'problem' to a different place, still have the same loss (if not more). The best solution is to tune that antenna correctly, which can be a real PITA all by it's self. I'd also recommend not worrying about getting a 1:1 SWR. If it's close, it's just not worth fooling with. 'Close' meaning 1.5:1 or so.

This is what I was looking at, and it's not a solid core conductor,

Fogdog, look at the times microwave lmr400 ultra flex, the equivalent stuff usually isn't that great. Times microwave makes about the best coax IMO. Just some food for thought.
