    MD-1 MIC FOR IC-718

Excellent information. Thank you. I just got back from a ham fest in Deerfield, New Hampshire. Someone was selling pre-wired 8 pin pigtail extensions. I bought one and I'll use that to make my conversion from Yaesu to Icom. Thanks again for the help. 73 KB1TTX Jack.

    MD-1 MIC FOR IC-718

Packrat, yes, the hand mic I am using on the 718 is an impedance mic, but I've seen where quite a few MD-1's are wired to the 718 with very good results. Sonwatcher, thanks for the info. If I'm understanding your pin placement, the only wires that need to be changed are 1, 5, & 6 on the Icom...

    VTVM

I have a Heathkit VTVM (IM-11) with a probe that is cracked beyond use. I've been searching the web without any luck trying to find a replacement cable. Does anyone have any ideas where I might find either a cable or the whole probe assembly? It's a shame that I can't use it just because the...

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

Good advice, thanks. I'll be calling Ken's early next week. I bought the radio knowing it was old and in questionable condition. In a way I guess I'm lucky I didn't find more problems. I'll let you know how things turn out. JB

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

Scout, you are right! I called them today and ordered a crystal. Great people to deal with. I just discovered that a resistor located in the middle of the chassis has been cut on one end. How can the radio still work with an inoperative resistor? I guess I'll be on the phone to Ken's again!

    Motorola Mic

I just tore the Motorola apart and simplified it. I wired the ppt switch directly, bypassing the circuit board and replaced the origional element with a D-104 element and substituted the fine wired coil cord with one that has wires that solder better. Ya, lot of work on an old mic, but I like...

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

Thanks for the .pdf file and the detailed info. Sorry about your calculator! My next question is where can I buy a 41.10 crystal? I have been searching the internet, Ebay, etc., without any luck. I tried to go to Kens Electronics, but google said the site was unavailable. Any ideas?

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

HiDef: Make a list of all the channels that don't work or are way off frequency. You can check using another radio nearby in ssb mode. Zero beat the carrier to check frequency. ________________________________________________________________ HiDef, Sorry it has taken so long to get back...

    Motorola Mic

Yes, the wiring you describe is correct. In fact, there is a circuit board inside the mic. I guess it's way too advanced for my Teaberry T. Too bad, I like the heaft and design of the mic. It would be great to chuck the guts of the Motorola and replace it with something that fits and works...

    Motorola Mic

Hello to all! I have a Teaberry Model T radio that I would like to wire a Motorola HMN-1049A microphone to. The Teaberry is a 4 prong but the Motorola has 5 wires. I am having trouble wringing out the wiring on the microphone. Can anyone shed some light on how I can properly make this work...

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

I will take a few pics of this Comstat's innards if anyone is interrested. My first Comstat was a mobile in my 1968 Dodge Charger. It fit perfectly right in the front of the center console. If I remember correctly, I used a Turner amplified (blue & white) mic with it. Many evenings my...

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

Thanks Scout 943. I am slowly cleaning the guts. While going through the radio, I found an old piece of paper with a crystal taped to it. The crystal is 41.10 and the place on the channel selecter it was origionally soldered to had the wires soldered together. All the tubes seem to be...

    Sprucing up a Lafayette

Hello to all! I just bought a Lafayette Comstat 25A tube radio. I had one like it as a kid and loved it. This old rig needs some TLC. I'm gonna start by de-oxing the controls and cleaning all the connections. I am able to transmit only on a few channels, so I'm guessing some of the crystals...

    D-104 wiring to Kenwood TS-520

John I wired the connection just as instructed except shield on #4 didn't work so I substituted it for the black wire and it seems to be transmitting. Is that Okay or might I have an internal problem in the base of the mic? Not much activity on the 20 meter band right now.

    D-104 wiring to Kenwood TS-520

Hello Everyone, I’m looking for some advice concerning an old Astatic D-104 mic (no battery in base) and a Kenwood TS-520 radio. I got the mic from EBay and the 4 pin mic plug had the worst soldering job I have ever seen. I want to replace the plug and correctly wire the mic for use with the...
