I think I will give it a try. The radio is very loud and I do like it overall however, I know I can do better than what I am getting out of that echo board.
Thanks. I suspected so since I cannot seem to get that "classic" Connex sound. I may have to make some adjustments or consider changing out the echo board.
Just my experience. I have run a Double Bazooka dipole in my attic for quite some time with good results. I recently replaced it with an Imax 2000 and it seems to do a bit better. Both worked well. A compromise for being indoors I am sure but it got the job done for sure. When the weather...
Does anyone know if the newer Connex radios all have the same echo board (see prior post regarding the Connex 4300-300). I was under the impression that only the 4300-300 had the new echo board (inferior?).
I have a newer 3300 HP. I would like to know if it has the same echo board as the old...
A few locals around here have this new radio. As I understand it they do not have the same echo board as the other models (made by Ranger). The locals here had their echo boards changed to the Ranger boards and they do sound better in my opinion.
I have now had a chance to try them all (636L, RK56, and the new SkyThumper ST-65DX). They are all great micophones! For my radio the 636L wins out. It sounds the best and I can run the mic gain a bit higher. This radio has so much darn audio that even the 636L sounds a bit loud......
KM, for some reason this radio was set up with a lower DK for both high and low to match up with an amp. Little chance for having it on high by mistake I guess.
I can always have it changed if necessary, but I seem to do well with it on high (less swing) and keeping the mic gain to no more...
KM, thanks for the input. You are correct. It does sound better on high power (DK=41/2 watts). I will try the 636L to see how that compares to the others I have tried. While the RK56 is a great mic it may be a little deep and provide too much swing for this particular radio (monster).
I have a newer Connex 3300HP with the mosfets. This radio is an absolute audio monster! I am having quite a challenge getting it to sound clear. The stock mic still picks up too much background noise so I am looking at the noise canceling microphones.
I have tried a RK-56 and it helps but I...
Interesting thread. So far my Cobra 200 seems to be working just fine. I will have to keep testing it as much as possible now before the warrantee is up.
I have been doing some experimenting myself. So far the Wilson 5000 Mag mount (stuck on a .22 bullet box) has been the best. I am currently setting up a Double Bazooka in the atic to see how that works. I have also tried a zero ground plane Solarcon on the gutter of the house which actually has...
Technician
Technician here. I have experience only in 11 meters (for 30 years). I would like to start exploring my options for getting into 2 or 6 meter. I would like to get a nice mobile or base to start off with.
