Mobile Different models of Firestick Antennas

Well, now I know...thank you for time. There are a lot of things I don't know and I'm thankful for the help. I'll keep trying. The Wilson 5000 worked best on my wife's car so, so far that's the winner. I'd put the 102 on there but she's ain't havin that and I'd have to agree that that's a little...

Mobile Different models of Firestick Antennas

Can anybody tell me about the different models of Firestick Antennas such as "Firestick 2 FS," "FS 2 Oversized," "FSX" What's best for mobile/and freebanding, running a little power, 10,11, and 12 meter radios. Don't quite have the funds for a dozen antennas to pick what I think is best. I have...

The SR-955 HPC 10 to 12 meter radio.

Here in the Pacific Northwest if you spend any time out in the woods you will most likely get runover by a log truck unless you have and are using your AM radio.

    DC Power supply

Nice! thanks for the pic...just getting back into Radio and will soon have wore goodies than the wife knows or wants to know about. I'll be getting my HAM ticket soon and am excited and anxious to get back into some good DX These forums didn't exist in the 70s when I was a kid with a very big...

    DC Power supply

Shadetree, Thank you so much for taking the time to give me an intelligent and positive reply...that's really what I was hoping for. It was beginning to look like I could possibly be swapping out the fan for a quiet one like Mudfoot suggested. I purchased a Powermax 100 this morning and was...

    DC Power supply

OK...is there a specific type or brand name that is popular and/or has proven to be a good, dependable power supply for use in the radio shack. Modification is always an option and I have a few small fans like the ones I used on my 6666s that would work real well but it would be nice to just...

    DC Power supply

Setting up a base radio and amp. I'm looking at DC power supplies like Powermax 100 amp. Question is, is the cooling fan too loud? Second question, what power supply would you all recommend? I have a couple fairly high powered amps and will be needing at least 75 amps. Very important for cooling...

WTB: 7 or 10 inch 102" steel whip riser

I run a 102" whip on my mobile and have done so for years. Never heard of a "riser"...what is it for and what does it do? is it in pace of the spring/ball mount I use?

Dialing in new Nikon Prostaff Scope . . .

Best way to dial in a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 'scope' is to take it back where you got it and replace it with something American Made...I personally have seen five Nikons that would not hold zero on anything bigger that a .22 Save yourself the disappointment. I don't mean to sound like an ass but...

    Maxmod...for real?

Face the radio straight down? That great big piece of aluminum is NOT a properly designed heat-sink and will retain heat about as well as let it dissipate.

    Maxmod...for real?

My little fan works great but I just don't want to rely on anything mechanical. You've got the right idea...cooling fins need to be just that, FINS...long, thin 'fins' work best. That big chunk of aluminum will only soak-up and retain heat...no 'fins' to let the heat dissipate.

    Maxmod...for real?

Yeah, that big chunk of aluminum screwed onto the back of the radio is a joke. I am looking into the fabrication of something better, something with some REAL cooling fins. I have devised an attachment with a 50mm fan that seems to work pretty well but would rather not rely on a powered fan when...

    Maxmod...for real?

Thank you Brother...I have run a good quality 8 gauge wire direct from positive side of battery to positive lead on radio and an 8 gauge from negative side radio to engine block with several braided, silver plated copper 'ground straps' to 'bond' everything together. The 6666 is a great little...

    Maxmod...for real?

NO! I haven't even opened the radio up and from all the information I have gathered from everybody on this forum I will leave well enough alone. 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' As I stated in my original post, I don't know #@$& about radio electronics. So thanks to everybody on this forum my...

    Maxmod...for real?

OK...final question...IF the transistors in my wife's 6666 fail would the ERF2030+s be a good replacement for all four (4) transistors
