I was driving when I posted that last bit, so I will add...
My setup does 1:4 out of the amp...which runs 95% of the time. And again, I have heard this radio since my wife uses it when we travel, and it sounds better than probably 90% of the junk out there. And compared to the work of most...
He fixed all the damage others had done before him...he unclipped it, I believe realigned it, and made it sound 100% better than it did. Everything else had been done prior to him getting hold of it...talkback, 1969 final, echo, etc.
I'm surprised that radio had enough parts left to fix...I...
ehhh, been a while since I had it done....I'm thinking I remember him stating it does around 1.25 and swings to around 18 to 20 on a scope?
It was set up to drive a 2-pill at a 1:4 deadkey/swing ratio.
Maybe, maybe not...some PA's are "wireless"...I've done the same thing at a local gas station that uses a wireless PA system.
I know when I was growing up we used to hear the server talking to the customer through our CBs...they had to be close in frequency. More than once I was asked not to...
I had a TX...can't remember if it was a TX400 or TX600. I never had it apart because it was pop-riveted together (case to the heat sink). Very durable amp...had lots of talk time on it. It had three power levels, the first was 10/120, the second was 50/600, and the final was 250/600...I...
A couple thoughts...as long as it wasn't intentional, and your equipment was "correct," you probably wouldn't have anything said to you...
Isn't there an FCC sticker on most transceivers that states something like they must accept any interference???
Ummm, not all fast food joints are FM or even VHF...
At one point they were very close to the 30Mhz frequencies...anyone remember when cordless phones were in the 49 Mhz range? I do, and it wasn't that long ago...
I have talked through the intercom at a local McDonalds, both the customer...
I have heard they tend to break electrically from flexing too much...very similar to most fiberglass antennas that break electrically at the base, only they can break anywhere along their length...
I have at least $250 in my Cobra 29...between the echo, tune up, retunes, alignments, swing kits, etc...I found a reputable shop, a member on this board, and have stuck with him.
Doing it right the first time is a whole lot cheaper!
So I know what I might be getting into with the bill...
I got shipped to Washington, so I doubt I will be able to get the radio to him in the next three weeks...but I will get it there at some point...
Whoops! This radio didn't come with a mic, and I noticed it has a five-pin connection...not a standard cobra/uniden 4-pin.
Can a 4-pin (like a Astatic 636L or RK56) be rewired for the five pin???
No, haven't had it hooked up yet...I'm taking it, and the amp, to DTB (speaking of that, I got to call him and make sure he'll be there). Let him see what's been done and what needs done...
He did my DX959 up really nice, hoping he can make this Grant sound the same.
And don't get me wrong, I wouldn't know what to really look for to see what has been mod'd...other than booger solder joints and clipped wires!
I basically want this radio to be stock, with a clear audio and sensitive receive...I've heard good things about the Grant as far as the audio being...
The main thing would be to get a good external antenna. I think the point that is getting missed is the fact it is a temporary install...a hand held is still better than no cb at all. I agree with 74, if this was a permanent or slip-seater install, then a regular chassis radio would be the...
Upon closer inspection, a jumper has replaced R174 and the connector with three wires near R174 has had three of the wires clipped and there is no corresponding ends...
