Well, I ended up returning this radio for a new one. Several things worth mentioning regarding how the return was handled by powerwerx...
1. They swapped it promptly no questions asked, great turn around...
2. They swapped the radio guts out and used my same plastic case i started with...
I just purchased the Wouxun KG-UV3D. THen i bought the USB programming cable and the accessory microphone. THen i programmed it, then my onboard microphone quit working but the accessory microphone still worked.
Please beware of this problem.
Here is the problem and the fix....

What if the noise is coming through the antenna? Then what? My magnum 257 picks up the noise from the motors of other people's windshield wipers. If a take of the antenna, no noise, no alternator, no nuttun, quiet as a mouse. I guess i would have to choke the recieve wire?
A much more inportant discovery (for me anyways) i am fairly certain of...
I can replace C8 (16v, 33uF) with a higher capacitance to get the SSB delay to last a bit longer (a problem i have with my unit which has made it unuseable in SSB).
Schematic only shows one jumper block. I am speculating its purpose.
So to answer your question, im "guessing" im refering to where it operates as far as frequency. But adding the additional guess that they actually have nothing to do with how the MOSFETS will behave (e.g. Output stage...
im a moron, but im gonna take a crack at this one anyways just for kicks.
From the schematic, there appears to be some ladder filters driving the circuit that cuts the relay on and off. The jumper position seems to attinuate the amount of filtering going on which drives that transistor...
my 257 picks up RF from not only my windshield wipers, but other people's driving next to me! HA! The good thing is, it doesn rain here much. They have a very sensative recieve. But i drive around with the RF gain cranked to max all the time and zero squelch. It also picks up my radiator...
thanks again! I will just have to keep searching and studying. Im also looking at this MFJ-945E little guy, seeing as how it has a built in antenna tuner. My shiny new Magnum 257HP says it wants a 1.4SWR or less so a built in antenna tuner/cross needle power/swr meter may just be the trick...
Hello,
I am rather new to the raido thing and i am looking for some advice on metering equipment. I have a magnum 257HP at the moment, a Roadpro Power/SWR meter, and a classic 102" Stainless 1/4wave whip.
I originally bought the roadpro just to tune SWR (for my old midland 1001z cb)...
