    Coax Cobra wire antenna

Is this the antenna you're talking about? I see a lot of antenna plans with the shield pulled back but this one looks a lot easier and I don't see what difference it makes if the shield is in or out of the outer jacket. Thinking about making one of these. Right now I'm using a 1/4 wave ground...

    Portable Frequency Counter IBQ2006ST

Needed a frequency counter to realign a transceiver but didn't want to spend much money on something that will sit unused most of the time. Looked at some used Fluke counters on an auction site for about 50 dollars, those would work great but they're big and bulky. I don't have a big work...

    Got the Uniden 980 today!

One reason I stopped using CB at home 20 years ago was the interference it created. Haven't had any problems with the 980ssb coming through speakers in the slightest. Dusted off an old radio shack CB that's completely stock and tried it out and it came right through the computer speakers but...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

It has been a little over a year since I converted the grantxl to 10M and it was fun but never worked very well. I recently switched it back to regular CB. Put back the original crystal, undid the unlocked clarifier, and realigned it. I'm having a problem with the RX/TX SSB frequencies aren't...

    Got the Uniden 980 today!

Is amber an option for the display? I bought a 980ssb and the box has a picture of it with an amber display on front and the picture on the website was also amber but it doesn't appear to be an option when scrolling through the color choices in the menu. Seems strange to me to show it on...

Uniden Introduces 3 new CB Radios -- Radical new designs

I purchased the Pro505xl because it was on sale for $35 no shipping charges and on a tax free weekend. It fits well in the center console of my econobox because it's so narrow. Works fine for what it is, a basic radio. I believe it has an ANL built in but without a switch to turn it on and...

A Dipole for your CB Base Station?

I have an 'inverted V' dipole in my attic and it works great, very wide band low SWR range. Antennas without loading coils to shorten the length generally have lower swr over a wider range which is why it's such a pain to tune tiny loaded car antennas. The cost was $0 dollars, best antenna no...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

Good suggestions, I'll try doing those after I do some on air testing of the radio to make sure it sounds good. I saved the original crystal by hot gluing it to the inside of the radio so that it never gets lost. I could hear people on two frequencies with the Yaesu, they were weak, one didn't...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

Ok it's all done, I hope, working reasonably well except the power is still a little low. I'm measuring 4 to 5 watts AM and about 8 watts pep on SSB, it drops off a little towards the end of the band. Maybe there is something wrong with the finals, I know this radio has been keyed up in the past...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

Did some more testing, it's working fine on SSB after I used headphones and dialed it in, sounds about right once I had the receiver on frequency. I soldered in a 2sc945 transistor at Q24 because it was missing, that should prevent overmodulation. I'm not sure if it's bad or not but I attached...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

ExitThirteen, Thanks! That worked! What a relief. I turned L19 1/4 of a turn clock wise and now it will TX all the way up to channel 40. I didn't test to see where that ended up yet but should be near 28.5Mhz. I'll look at the other adjustments later, I have to go to work soon and wanted to...

    Grant XL 10 meter mod

Has anyone done the Grant XL 10 meter mod? I believe it's the same for other similar radios. I found instructions saying to replace crystal X3 with a 11.6908Mhz from the stock 11.325Mhz Couldn't locate a 11.6908 but I did get a 11.6900 which should be close enough. Swap it out and tested...
