Is there a way to take a K40 antenna with a magnetic mount and a 57 inch whip and make it a 2 meter antenna.

Non-destructively? No. But you can try 'trimming' the whip till you get something usable on 2 meters. How long for the whip? I have no idea, but it isn't going to be something approaching a 'regular' size (1/4w, 1/2w, whatever).

Assuming you don't want to remove the coil at the bottom or do other changes that are as drastic, no.

If you know someone who has an analyzer they can scan the area around the 2-meter band and see if there is a resonant point that also has a low SWR point nearby that can be tuned for, but even if there is it won't work as well as an antenna designed for a 2-meter radio.

Around here you can get a mobile magnet mount ⅝λ 2-meter antenna for about $30. I would look into that solution before trying to modify a CB antenna for the same purpose.

If you were talking about 10-meters that would be different, a simple cutting of the whip would suffice, but the 2-meter band isn't anywhere close to the CB band that the K40 was designed for, and you are looking at orders of magnitude of difference between the lengths in question.

Seems to be dead on the radio lately. I don't know if the conditions are horrible, or more likely my weak antennas. I may head up in the mountains on Wednesday and see if reception / transmission is improved.
