I am going to get in to ham this summer. Do they make a 2 meter moblie that will also get in the 460 mhz range? That is the fire dept. band around here. Or can a radio be moded to do that?
There are probably several dual band radios that could be modified for use around 460 Mhz, but that can lead to problems of various sorts. I'm aware of one HT that's certified for Part-90 use making it legal for use on that fire department's frequencies. That HT can be used for both ham and Part-90 stuff (and is in several places). Not to mention that it's considerably cheaper than most VHF/UHF radios.
Not knowing what/how you plan to use such a radio, that HT may not fill your bill. It's a thought, though.
