I'm new to learning how to mod, and need a little help. I asked on Reddit but someone was like "you have no idea what your doing, stay out of radios". To a point he's not wrong, but how else do you learn?
Basically, what I'm doing is a receive mod. Around these parts, we call them elephant ears, not sure if that's a common term or not. Basically it gives you a bump in gain for picking up weaker transmissions. I can hardwire it, but I want it on a switch so the radio is normal until I start to lose them, at which point I can flip it on to get my ears out a little further.
I want it wired to my bright/dim switch but I don't want to do anything until I can figure out what each wire does on the switch. What's the best way to know what each wire on the switch does? I don't know all the circuitry and what they do yet, but that's what I'm trying to learn. What's a good source to figure all this out?
