2sc1969 vs 2sc2312

1969 = 18 to 22 watts 12db
2312 = 25 watts 10.5db

I always focus on the gain of the wattage.
Think of electrical voltage, what good is 110 volts without the amperage to back it up? Therefore, what good is a 10 watts without the gain to back it up?

Gain in wattage can be considered as amperage in volts.

Everything pertaining to a powerful setup isn't the wattage, it's the gain.
Antenna gain
Audio gain
Receiver transistor gain
Transmit transistor gain
Regulator gain
Therefore predriver, driver and final(s) gain.

Most transistor datasheets give all these details, which are vital for anyone looking for better replacements, but focus on the gain. And try to not be so impressed with hfe gains over 100, most of your best finals average around 75 to 95.

Hint:

Is that correct? You use a 2312 as the "driver" for a 1969? Or did you mean 2166?

Yes, you can use a 2312. The 2166 is just fine, but I've seen a few with a 2312 kicking a 1969 and they work and sound great.
