Antenna for my BoeFeng UV-5R

The stock antenna.

I have tried several. What I found online (at the time, a few years back) suggested the best available antenna was the Nagoya NA-771. Through dense woods (new growth poplar several years after logging) the stock antenna did slightly better than the NA-771 on both bands. I am sure better antennas exist by now, but I think if you want to see significant improvement, go directly toward handheld yagi and a few feet of RG-400. A fraction of a dB on a new whip isn't worth the money.

I picked up an abbree antenna that is foldable. It does hit our local repeater better than stock. I have a Nagoya telescoping also but it is comparable to stock. Sorry I don't have the model numbers available.

Incoming Region Produces X3 Solar Flare
    May 15, 2024 @ 14:55 UTC
Another major solar flare, but this time from an active region just beginning to turn into view off the east limb. It is possible that the group responsible is old AR 3654 from the previous rotation. The latest flare, an X2.99 event just peaked at 14:38 UTC (May 15). Stay tuned
