Any 220mhz activity in your area?

There's a bit going on here in SoCal. We have a couple of neat linked repeater systems. There's also a simplex group that has moved onto 220Mhz. I've begun to really like the characteristics of this band.

How much activity is there in your area? If none, do you think you could get some going?

I don't have 220 TX, but I don't hear anything on RX.

No repeaters that I know of.

220 gear is kinda rare.

I have an 8100 Yaesu that is opened up, do you think it can operate on 220?

No 220 on my 706MKIIG.:(

A pretty solid amount of activity in NJ though it's mostly the ARES/RACES/MARS crowd so there is little in the way of social content on the machines. From what I hear, the control ops like it that way too.

Mostly a lot of 'roger, over' posturing.

The repeaters are quite effective though and during the SET drill a couple weeks ago I was rather impressed by the coverage on the band here. The properties of 220 are pretty interesting, seems nearly as long reaching as 2m but more stable in the path.

There is no 220 activity in this area that I'm aware of. I can monitor 220 but can't transmit there, so don't typically pay much attention to that band. The trend in the last few years has been 'away' from 220, few manufacturers make a radio that cover it in addition to 2 meters and 440, not much market. 220 does have characteristics that tend to be a little of both 2 meters and 440, sort of. Too bad...

I am located in central Texas. A number of hams were stating that if there was a 220 repeater in the area they would get on the band. I went to a lot of expense and work to get a repeater going, it sat there for a year with about two of us on it. I took it down and sold it.

no radio gear for me, but my spectrum analyzer indicates regular activity on 220.

Also, our repeater coordinator shows well over 20 coordinated repeaters and almost a dozen uncoordinated. Only a couple of them are closed.

I'd bet that I could hit 100 220 repeaters here using a good beam and 100W.

Molecular dude, aren't you out in Sac?

Yeah, SoCal...like I said there's quite a bit of 220 activity out here, but it seems like every time you bring up 220 topic to folks in other areas they think you're from outer space. I think 220 is a very kewl band so I thought I'd see what is going on with it in other areas.
