Backscatter on 27.400 lsb.

Saturday had backscatter conditions on my horzontal beam.
These conditions lasted nearly 4 hours.
Transmitting from Chicago to the west coast back to Texas.:
Got to love the solar flux.

Not sure I follow you on this - You are TXing from Ill. to Texas and west coast....so where's the connection for "backscatter"?

The band was only open Saturday afternoon late between Northern Illinois and Southern Califorina. With my horz. yagi pointing west my signal hit the atmosphere on the west coast and bounced over to Texas.
No conditions between Chicago and Texas directly were possible. Backscatter.
and sidescatter are real interesting.
Maybe some has a scientic explanation to it.
