Best dual bander, 2/6 meters?

Prolly been asked 100 times before but fully expect to have my Tech ticket in Feb.

Started looking at 2 and 6 meter radios and am not nearly as familiar with those as I am with the 10/11 meter rigs.

So that being said, new or used? Best overall compromise radio for the two bands?

Will be running a discone or dipole antenna in the attic.

Base use of a mobile radio preferred, gives me that mobile option down the road.

Go to www.eham.net

Go to product reviews and you get a good idea

of different models that have been used by people and

they rate them. It's not perfect but it gives you a good

general consensus of different models, brands etc...

Roniak, Your best bet is to save your coins and get your self an Icom 706MKIIg or a Yaesu ft100d(?). Giga parts has them for $729 and you could get a use one for $550 to $600. There is'nt to many radios that will get you the best of all worlds. With your discone you could use it for 6m, 2m, and 70cm. I have used my Yaesu VX-7R with a discone as a separate receive antenna and transmitted over 100 miles with 5 watts. That is also another option that you could go with. Icom,Yaesu and Kenwood have very nice ht's that will fit your needs. What ever you do good luck and shop around.
