dx959

Do you have another radio you can use to listen for a transmit signal?

Hook up the 959 the normal way with your dummy load or antenna if you don't have one.

You can take a spare coax jumper and plug it into the receiver radio. Set it to the same channel as the 959 and key the mike on the 959. If you hear a carrier in the second radio, this narrows down where to look next. If you can hear modulation on the receiver radio, that's better.

If all you hear is a dead carrier, with NO audio this is important to know.

If you don't hear anything at all, unthread the shell from the plug at the far end of the coax jumper. This will expose the center pin, giving you a half-inch long "sniffing" antenna.

Key the 959 and "sniff" the area along the side rail behind the channel selector. If you still hear nothing, this means you can ignore the final and driver end of the transmitter for now. Without a carrier to drive them, they may be perfectly good. No way to tell.

Yet.

Restoring the missing drive signal that feeds them will be the next thing to do if you can't hear anything at all from the 959.

Try this and let's take it from there.

It's time to ask if the 959 is in fact hearing the channel you've selected.

If not, I'm really puzzled as to how the transmit light can be turning red when you key the mike.

If it is hearing the correct channel, that's one more thing that ain't broke.

Incoming Region Produces X3 Solar Flare
    May 15, 2024 @ 14:55 UTC
Another major solar flare, but this time from an active region just beginning to turn into view off the east limb. It is possible that the group responsible is old AR 3654 from the previous rotation. The latest flare, an X2.99 event just peaked at 14:38 UTC (May 15). Stay tuned
