Enjoy that joint

No, he signs a document at work regarding drugs then later gets televised purchasing drugs.

so what if he did? that's when they were illegal. maybe he didn't just want to be one of the first buyers, maybe he wanted to be the first to stand up for his rights to do as he pleases on his time.
now he can go to court and get an explanation from the courts as to why his employers rights are more important than his rights.

this country was supposed to be about human rights, it seems to me these days it's more about corporate rights.

why should a business controll your life by controlling your liberty by limiting your pursuit of happiness when it harms no-one?

besides, security jobs aren't that hard to get. he'll probably get a job offer or two from pro-pot bosses just from the publicity.

Did he pass the urine analysis from his employer? That's the deal, really. If he's supposed to stay clean of THC and he failed by testing positive, he doesn't have a case against them. May be why he put up a resume on Craigslist.

Unfortunately, employers can impose certain behaviors. One would not hire me for riding a motorcycle, because it presented an enhanced risk to their investment - or was an insurance issue...

I think also, I heard a story about a flight attendant that was also running an online porn chat video thing. The airlines said that behavior reflected poorly on their business. Something like that...

The only thing they can't require of you are things legislated or protected.

You sound like you must be a pot user yourself. The companyhe worked for was 100% in the right. He signed an agreement and broke it. It has NOTHING to do with legality. Alcohol is legal but an employer has the right to fire someone for using it on the job or while under the influence of it.

Security jobs with pro-pot bosses, whooooohooo...partay!!!!! The job you take when Electrolux thinks you're unqualified. What kind of person builds their career around being able to smoke pot? That's a rhetorical question by the way.

Edit: I will admit; If pot were to become as legal, on the local and federal levels, to buy and use the same as alcohol I would probably partake occasionally if I could keep my job. But I'm not risking almost 30 years of employment to get high. Only a total moron would to that.

I think the question is, can they fire you for having an evening glass of wine. Sure, if you signed a no alcohol agreement.

I smoked pot for years. Right at ten years as a matter of fact. Then I got married an needed a real job that cared about little things like urine analysis tests for drugs. Bummer. But I stopped smoking and moved on with my life. I've...partaken...here and there over the years when my schedule allotted enough time to clean up before going back to work. I work in the oil patches overseas so sometimes there may be a month or more 'free' from work or between rigs.

But, this time home I got an email from my new employer of three months saying I had two days to email them results from a urine analysis. So, that's curbed any 'partaking' of the cannabis with this company. I'll get to retire in another 15-20 years and it'll be 'fish on'. Just like the good ol' days.

Until then, "them's the rules."
