Hey everyone.
Last month I bought a DX-99v2 and did the conversion myself. I brought it to a guy here in Massachusetts who has been doing CBs for 30 years or so. I was having all sorts of problems on SSB...no one could hear me and I could not hear anyone.
So long story short, he did $250 worth of work on the damn thing...way more than I wanted to spend. He found a bad crystal and replaced it, redid my conversion, peaked & tuned, aligned SSB and meter, modulation, unlocked clarifier etc.
He said from his bench it is working great on SSB, and talked to Minnesota etc. Before I could not get anybody. I knew something was wrong, I am just glad it is fixed.
I should have gotten a Stryker from Bells is what I am thinking. I paid $310 for the radio plus $250 fixing the thing, and it is brand new.
Do you guys think I paid too much to get this thing sorted, or would that be the going rate about? He said he would call me if the fix was going to cost half of what the radio is worth, but he did not. Kind of upset about that.
Might just be my last Galaxy...ever.
