That’s nothing more than a cap hat on a loaded coil. It's still a vertical antenna because of the vertical mast is part of the radiating side of the antenna. The antenna will still perform mostly as an omni directional vertical because the RF currents are still forced upward.directional on a mobile may be alright if stationary. Not really sure how directional it is or the flat side claims. Would like to know more about this antenna as I've been looking at them as of late.

When the antenna is mounted at or near ground level, the ground reflections force the signal up into the vertical plane even when the element is horizontal.directional on a mobile may be alright if stationary. You have got to love the "3 times power gain" claim in a 56 inch loaded 1/4 wave that can only have a negative gain rating as compared to a 1/2 wave dipole.

Another major solar flare, but this time from an active region just beginning to turn into view off the east limb. It is possible that the group responsible is old AR 3654 from the previous rotation. The latest flare, an X2.99 event just peaked at 14:38 UTC (May 15). Stay tuned |
