Do these elements work better in a power mic or not?<img src=http://www.wwdx.org/smilies/posticon53.gif ALT=":53">

I use a Heil Proline Pr-20 with an EQ, seems to work fine for me. Here is a thread I saw on e-ham some time ago. I know I saw something else, but cannot seem to find it now. HC-5 element is definitely a good choice. Too bad they don't offer the proline element yet, I'd like to convert my d104 to that one.

If any of you guys have any old D104s or any other mics for that matter that have bad elements or you just want better sound quality I recommend this element.I retrofitted two Silver Salutes and one D104 with these elements and have recieved great reports.Great for SSB work also.

My comfortable D-104 position is on my lap speaking in a normal tone of voice. How does the HC-5 element perform when the D-104 is held at 12 to 16 inches from your mouth? I suspect it performs fine when held very close (like a handmike) with gain adjusted accordingly.

Please let me know. I've been searching for ideas to get a D-104 working well for both AM/SSB on my FT920. To date the best I've found is the old Turner +2.

Thanks,

Inspector
