Did some quasi scientific testing . . . .

Tip top of IMAX level with plane of dipole hung in attic.

Locals hitting me at 9 using the IMAX, barely moving needle on dipole.

IMAX outside, about 75 feet from house.

Dipole located in attic.

Other than feedline and antenna, all else the same.

Based on this I'd have to say, outside beats inside, by a lot.

(like I said, quasi scientific)

You're right, outside beats inside in almost all cases. But don't forget polarity. If that dipole is horizontally polarized, then there will be a big difference in what you hear with a vertically polarized antenna, something on the order of 20 dB or so (+/- a bit). That assumes that both antennas weren't polarized the same. Not very likely, but certainly possible.

Yeh, crossed polarized will do it every time on local contacts. Your comparing oranges to apples Find someone with horizontal polarization ( in the right direction) and I bet the results will be reversed .Try again on Dx and see what happens as the polarity constantly changes. But generally the same ant outside will outperform the attic ant.Good to see you trying things for yourself, keep it up.;)
