Depends if u need portability or not. The TS-2000 would probably cost twice as much. Depends on how much u want to spend I'm sure. If u mostly want to work HF, you would probably be better off with the Kenwood, receive would probably be more sensitive. Eham's reviews section may help u make your decision if cost is not a factor. Just a thought and good luck with your decision.

I have the TS-2000 and it is a great radio. Dual receive is a huge factor. I did not think it was until I have it,,,now I cant stand not having when I use my 706 in the car. I use a G5RV with the built in tuner and operate just fine. The RX is great and no extra filtering is needed because its all adjustable from the menu. It has 4 antenna connectors in the back, 5 if you have the 1.2 Ghz. I have a TH-D7AG handi talkie that work together with the 2000 and makes a great rig.

Sky Command feature works JUST GREAT with the 2000 and the D7AG. And for the so called HAM POLICE ON HERE,,,, Dont tell me sky command is illegal because so is operating on the "freebands" ,,,,,,,,no harm no foul <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Cross band repeat is pretty neat also, if your into that freebanding just think you can take your GMRS radio and cross band with it to your freeband freqs <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon5.gif ALT=":p5">

This radio is worth every penny just wish it had a blue display <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon62.gif ALT=":62">

Sky Command is AWESOME!!!

You have to use another HT that has sky command feature like my D7AG or even the mobile D700A heck even another TS-2000 or TS-870 yada yada yada,,

Using my HT I can "control" my TS-2000 on the HF bands!!!

Sounds like cross band repeat? ALMOST difference is, I can change frequencies and operate the internal antenna tuner as well!!!

What does that do for me? Well my 2 meter 70cm antenna is 50 foot in the air. My G5RV is also at the top of my tower. So if I were to use my HT I can drive around town with nothing more than and HT and talk on the HF bands or VHF UHF bands all from that little radio but I would be transmitting off my G5RV.

I transmit to the TS-2000 on 2 meter with the commands to transmit on HF or change frequency or tune the antenna and the TS-2000 transmits the signal back to my HT on 70cm. Using this HT it shows the frequency I am on and the mode.

Its a BLAST,,,,,,,,,,,,,errrrrrrr aaaaaaa so I am told <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/rollingaround.gif ALT=":rollingaround">

what are the thoughts on this unit...

mind you i do great with my Icom 706MKIIG

i figure though the TS-2000 does same bands..

it also recieves on 222 mhz & is also easy to add on trasverter for 222 transmitting as well as add on modual for 1.2 gig band...

i hear it has a exellent reciever on it & is generally a much better radio over my 706..

i also like the 100 watts out on HF,6 & 2 meter bands.

plus 50 watts on 70cm band...

plus with transverter for 35 watts on 222 mhz band..

am curious..let me know all...

thanks
