I use one as a base. Sometimes the signal strengths will be low (just the indication, not audio) and if I key the mic for about a secound and un-key the so called s-meter will show the stations normal reading. Anyone ever run into that before ?

Well, turns out it was not the radio. It was the antenna ! I use a MFJ 1764 2/6 meter base antenna. It's allways dry and windy when I run into the problem I discribed in my last post, static build-up? I am still very happy with the antenna.
