New Northpoints

From what I found out today these radio's have volted finals from the factory. This would explain the strong numbers people are seeing from them. I would like to see one bench tested on a scope, and then let a truck driver hammer on one for 3 weeks and see if there is anything left of those finals. If they can last they might turn out to be great sellers.

If someone wants this truck driver to hammer on one via the airwaves, I'll be more than happy to give one a test for a few weeks to see just how much hammering one can take!

Oh ya, I been know to do a wee bit o' hammering in the big truck.........

NorthPoints are proving to be a good radio for the money. Soon as the other models hit we should see them get more popular.

Strange the ones I seen have no freq drift. The board inside looked fine. Kinda weird Lesco has had only 7 returns onthem isn't it?

I do not peddel anything. I decided its not worth argueing about with people that don't know anything.

Northpoints are comming into the country quickly, and just as quickly are being sold. We have just been set up as the warranty repair center, on the West Coast, and another place in New York has been set up for the East Coast. So far, there is one distributer who I will not name for obvious reasons that has been purchaing every single one once they hit the dock. The last 1025 units that were shipped in were bought up by them. As far as them being a good/bad unit, keep in mind that they are an export radio, with all of the "quirks" that the export series typically have... moderate quality boards, some VCO problems, and the typical "noisy" receiver, which is due to a very wide bandpass filter, a huge amount of gain in the 1st R.F. amplifier, and wide / poor I.F. filtering. As the months progress, we should have a fix for every one of these issues, and I will add my input to these situations.

Hello there,

We are working on a new GasFet front end modification, covering the 1st RF amp, and IF sections. I have done these many many times in the Cobra 148 series boards with excellent results, a lower noise floor, increased selectivity, the only problem that still exists is the wide IF filtering. Still working with projects on the "drawing board".

I might be interested in the GasFet Front end modification.

Sounds Good.
