My opinion would surely be biased (used to be a tech at Palstar) as I built and tested a few of these meters. I would go with the Palstar 2000AM over the Comet CMX-1. I never really cared to much for the Comet brand name but that is from my personal experiences with their products. Besides, I live about 1 mile away from Palstar, so replacements are quite easy, especially if you know the owner... HIHI
I guess it depends on what you would be looking for on the RMS/PEP side of things.
The Palstar reads peak and average........The CMX-1 reads only average.
I have been using a CMX-1 since 2001 and it is a nice compact piece. The reflect watts needle is tough to see at night when the meter is lit, but I don't do much night time driving.
I would recommend the Comet.
