I called my local power company and told them their system was excessively noisy and pointed the spots where it was the worse. They replaced a few transformers and a bunch of insulators.Thanks all for your input .I went mobile today , didn't take much right across the street . I went by New Transformer installed by local power company . pinned my needle , drove to house approx another 100 yds . , needle went flat ! I called power company & they said they would send someone out next day or 2 .
Go get them sink in your teeth and don't let go!

@ ButtFuzz:Please advise me to what is a good replacement mic for my SR-497HPC... Answer: 497 is "wired like Cobra", so many choices available. That radio does not need a power mic, so purchase a stock "coffin style" mic with a decent cord, like the ones that Astatic uses.
