A guy had a bunch of CB's listed for parts on CL for cheap. 16 to be exact. 10 mobiles and 6 base units.
Seller didn't know if they worked. I figured perhaps I could get them to work, if they didn't already work. None of the mobiles came with brackets, some of the radios didn't come with mics.
Here's the mobiles I acquired...
Cobra 25 40 channel Nightwatch from Apr 2004, no mic (had to use one of my other Cobra mics to test)....works but half the backlighting is out.
Midland 79-893 40 ch SSB from Mar 1977, works good. Had to borrow the 13-893's mic to test.
Midland 13-893 from Jun 1974, 23 channel SSB, transmits and receives but internal speaker is out. Twin brother to the 77-893 in looks. Only one to come with a mic.
Midland 13-871 23 channel from Dec 1971, it receives but no mic to transmit...I guess back in those days the mic plug wasn't the typical round 4 prong plugs we see today....?
Midland 77-857 40 channel from Apr 1977. Works good. Had to borrow the 13-893's mic to test.
Midland 77-838 40 channel from 1977. Works and actually came with a mic which is good since the channel changer is on the mic.
Cobra 23 plus, 40 channel works good, came with a mic
GE 3-5804D 40 channel, works good, came with a mic
Cobra 29 from Apr 2003. Powers up but the TX sounded very distorted on my receiving radio (Kenwood TS-2000) and also the meter is out.
Midland 77-250 CXL. Doesn't even power on.
And now for the base radios.....
SBE Console II 23 ch SSB...works but intermittently. One minute when it's keyed up you can TX and the next you can't. Turn it off and you can again. Or flip it to SSB. Also for some reason in SSB I could be heard on my TS-2000 when the TS-2000 was in the AM mode. Also the needle on the meter doesn't swing.
Cobra Cam 89. Works good, meter lights are out.
Realistic Navaho TRC-30A works good.
Courier 23....now this one is a tube type, no mic, I tried to see if it would receive, and the needle swung a little when I keyed up the other radio, but nothing came thru the speaker.
Midland 13-863B from Aug 1975...no TX or RX but the PA works good.
Royce 1-620 doesn't RX, speaker not working, TX it sounds real distorted on the other end.
So out of all of these, what do you think? Are there any you think I should hang on to? Or sell? How good would you rate these radios?
Thanks in advance. And here's some pics...
