Havin the WWRF on the monitor along with all that cool gear.
That's pretty slick!
Cleaver what you did with that microphone base and microphone.
Tell us about what you did and why/how it was built?

It was that, CBA or porno.:D

Tell us about what you did and why/how it was built?

First off, I get very good audio reports, which I will expect you to doubt after reading what follows.:D

The base is from Radio Shack, I drilled the holes for the 1/4" jack, the key (momentary push switch from RS) and for a cord (after the above pic was taken).

The mic holder is RS's cheapest.:D

Then I stuffed the foam RS cover on a Phillips mic that I bought from Wal-Mart for $9.44+tax.:LOL::LOL:

Now you get why I have a 1/4" jack, so when I don't feel like being low-rent anymore, I can put a better mic on it.:D

Which may be a while, after hearing how good it sounds.

It is a 600 ohm mic into a 600 ohm input. So it matches with a sweet spot.
You are using it for your HF rig only?
Or other radios too?
What kind of 2 meter radio is that?
And you're a guitar player, as I used to be too.
Saw the pick - of course...

Just on the Kenwood, I'll probably make another base for the Icom. Not for the one with the orange face, too handy having controls on the mic.

Not 2M, dual band.

After having a number of 2M radios, I bought a dual band and can't imagine going back.

Used prices are good if you look around.

The one pictured is a Yaesu FT 8100, I paid $185 (I think) for it, it's in VGC, came with all the original boxes and hardware, the remote kit and an extra face.

It'll RX up to over 1300 Mhz.

I've got the Yaesu FT-8800. Just getting used to it, it's new and I'm just using a mobile antenna. Don't have a base antenna for it. Or for the other radios I have either. That is what I'm working on now, as a matter of fact.
I think I going to get/make beams/yagis for all of my radios. I think it is a practical choice, so that using power can be avoided.
Yup.

I think I going to get/make beams/yagis

Go for it.

The VHF and UHF antennas are easy, due to smaller components.

I made a 2M Yagi from some AU angle and some AU tubing.

Used a dipole for the driven element, insulated it from the boom with some plexi-glass. Used self tappers and the little clips that hold screens in storm doors to hold the parasitics.

An omni is even easier.

I use a jpole now but I think I'll make a GP using one of these 2M/440 Dual Band Antenna, 3/8 x 24 110028 - eBay (item 150295780037 end time Feb-14-09 10:00:41 PST)
I have one on a big truck and it works fine.

As soon as I find a solenoid to gently spin a yagi 90 degrees, I'll make a dual band.

Nice Pics..hey put some better descriptions on your pics. I put your album on the main page :)

Nice job on that mic base and for HF SSB and even FM use, don't be surprised if that 'cheap' mic keeps you going for a long long time.

The Audiotechnica ATR-30 is another 'cheap' mic that matches well with an awful lot of rigs wired right into the mic jack for anyone else poking around.

A really nice PTT switch, as far as the feel goes is the flipper button for a pinball or other arcade game. I've got one kicking around with a wire pigtail on it that I keep meaning to find a desk housing for.

It's made to go through 3/4" plywood and I've been tempted to put it right into my shack desk top....heh but I worry about setting something on it or a pet walking over it while I'm not there. Maybe I could put a toggle somewhere to take it out of line.

It's funny, generally I use a foot switch, but there are fast conversations and times where a fingers driven PTT button just feels better.
