Well I know they are pretty well gone by the wayside now, but I think the Cobra 2000 was one of the best radios ever made. It was very loud and had good filters as well as a good receive.



I did a lot of DX talking with a Cobra 2000, Silver Eagle D-104, Palomar 300A and a Penetrator 500 ground plane. That setup kicked major Butt!

Charger I agree with you on that. I had a Cobra 2000gtl with channels and unlocked clarifier and man did it talk!! Silver Eagle D104 Lollypop also (Still have the mike and wont let it go for old times sake). I was running a big stick (yuck) and a loudmouth 500. I talked all over. Then swapped the big stick to a Antron 99 with a groundplane kit and that really kicked. Sometimes I miss the old daze. Until I look at my 6900 LOL

W'aall, I guess if you look at my signature I guess you know what I think. I had one (2000) when they were new & left it with my dad when the military sent me overseas. By the time I got back he had sold it (Guess he thought it was his) and the CB craze had pretty much died out. Last year when I started getting back into it I looked around untill I found another "Virgin" not Modded. I have done a few mods of my own to it nothing major, and I still think it is the best radio going. And I agree with the D-104. That has got to be the best Mic out there for almost any radio. A Cobra 2000 GTL and D-104 is one of the best radio combinations anyone could ask for. And the whole setup can be had for under $350.00

WOW what a radio. One thing I gotta ad here, I have a Browning Golden Eagle Mark IV-a and when it come to LOUD audio, that rascal is real hard to beat. Hardest punching radio I own & it didn't need any Mods either.

i guess there really is no ultimate radio, it dependes on your mode. am i would lean towards the 29, ssb i love my chipswitched 2510. most aggrevating has to to be the galaxy 99 , with added rf pollution in the hands of a amped up AUDIOOOOOOOO monger. (splash master).

I don't know how many here are techs. We techs use different radios more than those that do not work on them because we are always either repairing different radios or showing them to sell them.



I get reports like, "That is the best radio that I have ever heard" frequently.



However, I was nothing less than startled when I started getting that CONSTANTLY with almost every transmission. It began while I was running a Connex 3300-HPZX. It quit when I stopped using that radio and the reports went back to being great but only ever so often "The best ever".



Then lo and behold they began again being "the best ever" This time I was using a General Lee--the identical radio to the Connex 3300-HPZX. Then when I used another radio the "best ever" reports went down again.



To make a long story short, EVERY TIME I use one of these two radios the reports begin immediately--all day long--every day"Tha'ts the best sounding radio I have ever heard".



Whatever Ranger did differently to these radios than they did to the Galaxy 33 and the regular Connex 3300--other than the 2312's, I don't know but there is something definitely different even though they appear identical. Prehaps it is the reverb board--I don't know yet--but I am going to find out.

This is the third time I have heared that being said about those two radios! Something is different in them! I've heard a few on the air and asked what they were! 3300's It would be nice to find out whats the deal with that! Somethignspecial is going on with these rigs for sure!

When you set one of these radios up to peak! What do you see for specs?Scope wattage bias shed some light on it!

Well going way back I know, the Cobra148 GTLDX was the top rig in the UK. 120ch AM/FM/SSB, good TX/RX and so easy to modify, they were like gold dust to us rig starved guys in the UK. With the addition of a cheap binery adder ic and a few switching diodes the channels seemed endless.

My first ever rig was a President AR7 40/AM, and the Cobra seemed like "Mission Control" with all the switches and knobs

LOL.
