x1m/more news
This is from import communications...
As most of you know, the expected shipment of X1M radios got delivered in
time for me to ship them out before leaving last Wednesday for Dayton. All
on-hand orders were filled and the remaining radios were taken to Dayton. At
least a dozen or more were sold there. At least 3 people reported on
Saturday that they'd tried the radio Friday night, all with good results.
>
> As with any new product, there are going to be growing pains and the X1M
is no exception. I will tell you that positive reports are running about 98%
so far. You guys that have found glitches, just be patient and I will get
them all resolved.
>
> I was without email since Wednesday because of a home computer problem I
couldn't resolve by long distance. So I may just now be reading your emails.
I'm working through them.
>
> The factory is pleased that 100 radios have been sold so quickly. They are
also aware of the problems that have been reported. More importantly, they
are willing and anxious to resolve any problems. It will be the owners of
this radio that will result in it being a really good radio in the end.
>
> They are aware that poor assembly has caused some problems and they will
fix that. They are aware of the reversed polarity for the keyer. That will
be fixed by firmware, by me if needed. Yes, it seems that some things can be
changed via firmware. And NO, it will not be a do-it-yourself project from
what I understand.
>
> What I need from you X1M owners is a report. I need information to pass
along to the factory to correct problems or to improve the radio. PLEASE do
not tell me things like it needs a built-in tuner or built-in 500 Hz CW
filter, those ain't gonna happen. The basic radio is NOT going to change but
quality control will get corrected and simple improvements are possible. One
person suggested rubber feet. I thought of a front fold-down leg that would
tilt the radio up in front. Give me your thoughts but don't be crazy.
>
> Frequency jumping when using RIT. I notice this only happens with fast
back-and-forth turning of the knob. There's no problem when turned slowly,
one direction at a time. What do you see? These are the type of comments
that will help improve this radio.
>
> If you have a problem and you have the ability to troubleshoot it, I have
no problem with you taking the radio apart and I will still honor the
warranty. Hopefully you will be able to resolve the problem yourself. Here
again, don't be crazy. Don't screw with it if you don't have at least a
little clue of what you're doing. DO NOT REMOVE THE SILVER SCREW ON THE
BOTTOM. This holds a nut against the power transistor and it will fall off
if you remove the screw. In future models, I will try to get access to this
screw blocked off.
>
> Computer control. The factory has made an interface connector. I will try
to get these shipped to me before the next shipment of radios are ready.
Right now, these are still serial port connectors. I will try to get this
changed to USB.
>
> A schematic and block diagram of the radio is coming soon. I will provide
this as soon as I get it.
>
> That's all I can think of for now. Don't expect a quick reply to an email,
there's about 500 in front of you.
