Yaesu FT-890 programming help needed

I bought the proper cable and hooked it up to my computer and then to the radio. Windows reports all is working properly. That's as far as I have gotten. Do I need to run a "Terminal Emulator" program or is there another way of doing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This radio was designed back when we were still running DOS. The most you can hope is to be able to read frequency and mode for your logging software.

What program would I use to do that? Even if that's all it would do it is a function I would use. Not what I was hoping to hear. Thank you for the reply though.
