Yeasu or off brand?

I don't want China to have my money period. Anything we buy from them strengthens them as a nation. I rather pay more for quality stuff(non-union if possible)made in the USA.

Try and implement a "Never buy China" policy into your daily life and see how far that get's you. Remember that the "Made in the USA" item you buy probably has parts made in China inside. They get your money either way. Personally I look for quality versus price and sometime China wins and sometimes it doesn't. I worry about the money in my wallet and not the money in someone else's.

I realize that. I was thinking about the USA being a major exporter if our nightmarish with fangs government would lay off punishing those(read socialism)who have more money. I made my decision to buy my Galaxy DX-959 which is made in Mayasia and not one of the Chinese units especially after buying a two pound sledgehammer(made in china)because I thought it was at a good price. It lasted two weeks. The glued on head fell off. The handle was so designed that it was inserted only halfway into the head.

Ok gentelman sorry for the spelling error....LOL

I think I have gathered what I need from your various replies. Now to refine my origonal question.

Your opinions on the 8800r?

And is their an "all mode" rig that covers 2/70cm with a respectable output that is small enough to run mobile that won't kill itslef in the long run when set up propperly?

This will be my "long haul" setup and I am just trying to gather all of the information before making a decision.

Thank you for adding your personal experences and knowledge on this one.

Yes I have read the reviews. It looks as though the Kenwood tm-v71 is another viable option. There looks to be issues with both of these rigs. I read about the crystal filter going bad and one of the receivers going deaf in the Kenwood. It would seem that the most complaints from the 8800r are comming from the non-backlit buttons and otherwise seems to be a good performer.

Not really sure on either of these..........

I am going to put my 2 cents in. You get what you pay for ! The Chinese radios have no tech support or warranty service center that I am aware of. Yaesu, ICOM,Kenwood and Alinco does. If you want a throw away radio and no support then buy them. You want a radio that will last a few years with support and service then spend more and get a better performer as well.

I'm not aware of any Kenwood radio that's 'full duplex', neither the '710 or the '71 do. If you transmit on either band the 'other' side of the radio goes mute. I don't think that's a draw-back though. You do hear both sides when you're not transmitting. Why would you want 'full duplex'?

I think you missed post # 20.
