BBT Delivered Hy-Gain Penetrator 500 Today

The manual gives a parts list......

Matching Rod-170774

Shorting Rod-170775

I saw that in a copy of the original manual. Problem is hygain does not make those parts anymore. I called them up and ordered some of the insulators that have not changed part numbers but they could not/ would not help with the gamma stuff. Since they are now manufacturing the old antenna again, I bet they have a new part number for the gamma match parts. If I can get that, I can probably order them.

OK , I just re read your post, Eastside. So those part numbers were out of the new manual? Just want to make sure before I call up Hygain. Thanks man

Thanks. Hygain just told me about 4 weeks ago that those part numbers were no longer available... Gonna give them another call.

They just started building the Penetrator again....and I guess they were swamped with orders....they may not have had time to stockpile parts yet....too busy building entire antennas?

the matches can be made real simple...from the link bm posted, use...1/8” Alum rod or #10-12ga solid cu wire.

i have often bought old tv antennas at auctions for reusable parts

keep in mind copper and aluminum dont play nice together when exposed to weather . the copper will turn black then green no matter what you do . i prefer to not unnecessarily invite corrosion on a permanent antenna or in/on its connecting sections .

I just hope the correct the error of saying that its a CB antenna on the box so the CPSC doesnt make it go away! Why did they just do away with metal CB antennas and not metal ham and TV antennas?? that never made sense to me as just as many people get killed by installing TV and ham antennas near power lines.

Penetrator 500 Question.

What only 3 capacity hats on top and not 4 ?

The next ? is who had them in stock ?

Bend one yourself. 41.5" total of 8ga copper including the little loops around the bolts. You can use nolox and a brass flat washer between aluminum and copper to prevent corrosion and oxidation and use brass bolts and nuts, then solder them in place to keep it working for decades.

From what I could tell, the area the 4 bottom radials bolt on the main section looks like the plate is a thinner piece and theres only 1 hole for the radials to be bolted on there....

I have one of the old ones on the back porch, and it has the 2 holes for the bolts...and this plate is also thicker on mine...

sooooooooooooo .....
they don't make them exactly like they used to mechanically .
but electrically its about %99 there ?
