every 7000 i have heared sounds funky, they pump like a ts2000 but the time constants are much faster and theres ringizinging around the trebble that sounds horrible,
some folk will tollerate anything for a pretty face and fancy functions,

im doing a survey,
the locals that still own 7000's listen to thrashy metal rock music and like dissonant sounds such as somebody scraping a chalkboard with their fingernails,
drive around with a squeeky wheel bearing and not notice untill their buddy asks "whats that noise"

getting good reports and sounding good are often unrelated:wink:

Nope, they sound like that on SSB.

I kept my mic gain at about 7% and closed talked the mic. Play with the transmit audio to your liking, then leave it alone.

Does it have transmit EQ ? Like the Kenwood 570dg

Sounds to me like the problem is poor setup. All knobs (settings) to the right will certainly produce crappy sounding audio just like you describe. I've heard plenty of 7000's properly set up and if the operator had not said what they were running, no one would know the difference between them and any other well set up rig.
