About a year ago I bought a Stryker 447 matched to a TS_350 from Doug at Custom CB ... Doug did a fine job at matching the two units. I have ran this set up for about a year but... I just wasn't happy with this set up. And this has nothing to do with Doug's set up.

Recently I was fortunate to be able to purchas at a very good price a Magnum S9-175. Today I removed the Stryker/TS-350 and replaced them with the S9. I have a Siro 5000 as my mobile antenna...

The results are as follows...

1) The white noise was much lower on the S9 and the receive was also much better on the Magnum. The S9 is by far is a quieter radio and the receive is much better. The 447 picked up my windshield wiper noise while the S9 seemed to filter out this noise.

2) The echo seemed to have a better sound. I use just a slight touch of echo but it seemed to sound better to my ears.

3) Transmit... During my 400 mile drive today I did various radio checks and the feedback with the S9 was impressive when compared to the 447. I never got this sort of positive feedback with compared to my Stryker /TS 350 combo.

Conclusion...
I am well pleased with the S9 and it is a keeper in my book.

I have been interested in the S9-175 but you just don't see them for sale down this neck of the southern woods. ;)

What price did you pay for it, used or new. cheers

$200 used. To me compared to the other Magnums being sold I thought it was a fair price. Maybe not a steal but very good price. As far as the S9 175 Watt model... you can purchase any S9 and add the Magnum 175 Watt accessory. As mentioned above...I wasn't expecting the S9 to be that much better than the 447. But pleased I am.

My next test eventually is to test out my Galaxy 95T2 that I traded even up for my Galaxy 99.

Best of luck.

$200...that is reasonable.
I wonder if the S 45 HP could be hotted up with the 175 watt accessory?

cheers

You have a good tech put a great tune on a radio letting it be what it can be. There is no reason to have a radio, "hotted up", that's the kind of smoke and mirrors crap that golden screwdriver techs do.

If 175 watts ain't enough get a regular 40-50 watt S9 and run it into a TnT 350 from X-Force. If you feel you must have something different done to your S-45 HP check with Doug at Custom CB. He will at least do good tech work but you must understand when you try to have that S-45 HP "hotted up" you are paying mucho dollars for watts. When you add an amp you get mucho watts per dollar.

Agreed with the Cobra but....

I am going with a radio with built in power.

I don't need to talk 500 miles.

The S9 is fitting my needs 100%

yes he would be smoking if he run a 45 into a 350
smoke out the back of the box

I'm with ya on that, The S9-175 is a superb stand alone radio.

Agreed 100%
This is what I am finding out this week.

I understand that a Cobra with a good amp would likely blow the doors of the S9 but....the S9 to me ... IMHO ... is a better radio than a 447 with a TS 350 amp. This is what this post is about. Comparing the 447 with amp to the S9-175.

It is meeting my needs. I have never owned a Magnum before but if all Magnum's perform like this one... I'm sold.
