Helping the cb revival along

There is FM CB, its called GMRS
yes but here in Canada were not allowed antenna or more than 2 watts, so useless for more than a mile on handheld, also it is my understanding that being a very small wave length, it doe not get out over or through trees and buildings. My understanding that cb is very good at this, being a large wave at 36 feet, it tends to be one of the better freq. for local comms.
 
Yup... but that isn't CB/11 Meters, That is UHF and requires a license

For that matter, MURS and FRS are FM as well and free... but this is a thread in the CB section of the Forum.

And the "No FM on CB rule" makes about as much sense as the old (now removed) 155.3 Mile DX limits

just off the lsb 38 pair of ham guys were holding the channel on their Yaesu FT-101, sounded good, but there 260 watt pep meant the channel was theirs. They held it forever, still going. Amps are hard enough, but ham guys just lock me out solid. Not sure why ham guys are running on 27 mhz, but seems radio is becoming anything goes. Maybe time to buy an old ham rig and run it, if the hams are gonna bonk onto cb, I guess it's open season, anything goes.

Ham guys scream like crazy when a non lic gets on there channels, always calling cb the childrens, band and here they are blasting 260 watts on cb band, and locking up the air.
So... because they had ham radios they are automatically hams? Doubt they were using their call signs on 11 meters... Plenty of NON hams on 11 meters using ham gear.
I wont beat this horse, but plenty of reasons why guys choose ham gear over cb/exports... especially for ssb...

Hey sounds like a great idea, not knocking that, but no, they were ham guys , talking ham style, ham stuff. Laughs, Yaesu FT-101 sounds like a good way to go, the quality of the sound was tops

With the given age of the FT-101, I'm willing to bet there are more CB SSB operators using them these days then there are Amateur Radio Operators
As BlackCat mentioned, Amateur Radio rigs are MUCH better on SSB compared to any CB/Export rig



As it why is FM being outlawed in this county Stupid?

Why does the way a Carrier is modulated make it illegal?

-It works well within the 10 kHz Channel Spacing of 11 meters
-Offers better audio (when compared to AM)
-Usually a quieter signal (when compared to AM)
-Offers shorter range (when compared to AM), meaning it usually doesn't propagate as well

I mean, it is along the same lines as running more than the legal 4/12 watts... Nobody really cares anymore... any more then likely, no one would notice, or understand what was happening if they came across an 11 meter FM QSO
 
Trying to get people interested in CB as a hobby in my small town was extremely difficult. The hobby aspect of CB has largely vanished, but fortunately the business use of CB still has a small foothold. I stopped giving radios away for free among relatives and friends. Those efforts mostly failed to instill the old school “hobby” part of CB communications that I wanted. As you know, the new hobby is all about exercising your thumbs without having any peripheral vision. In other words, I found prioritizing the hobby aspect before business is like placing cart before the horse. Case in point: Several large gravel pits in our area have attracted simi trucks from all over, and even small pickups from local users. It didn’t take them long to discover that CB coordination became a necessity in order to maneuver yourself into position. All the different sizes and types of gravel one may want required that coordination, and CB was the perfect tool. This business has also created a spinoff of users into the CB hobby world. The point is you first need to promote a legitimate purpose for having a CB. The desired hobby effect will hopefully be the residual result. This “business first” sequence is exactly what happened when CB was first introduced years ago.


The attraction of Radio seems proportional to hearing anything.

Your approach appears sound. The giant grain elevators in Fort Worth can give almost non-stop traffic some days. The less constant chatter on AM-19 is filler.

Now, as to interesting . . .

I could not agree more finding a need and filling it is what any business should be about and I was not suggesting that your approach would not be a way to go I have installed several base operations for gravel pits and they were all a success and did spawn more interest as the truck drivers got some of there friends involved and so on. In other words, whatever works in the area you live or work will not always work in every area there is also the finding the need for anyone to get involved in something most now would say well why I have a cell phone what good is a CB or anything that doesn't have internet attached? Those are the people that need to be schooled on the end of the world communications devices and schooled on how easy it is to find yourself in a situation that only a CB or something like it could get out of when the Cell tower goes south! Not an easy concept to get across but it can be done.


The effectively low-cost investment is the attractant once interest is piqued.

The equity labor of installation reduces that quickly.

Ive heard this just often enough traveling the country to wonder what’s up. I’m hearing what sure ain’t a leen-yer cranked up by some drunk goat roper. Studio-grade audio . . but acting like an ass.

More than once, an hour blanking everyone on AM-19 long past sundown while crossing OKC . . and to put up with this.
