Hello, Is there a procedure to operate/excite the THP HL-1.2Kfx amp on AM? If I set drive to <10 watts, there's really no increase in output, but if I increase drive to about 15 watts, the amp goes into overdrive mode. I followed the manuals instructions by decreasing input drive to 30% but that doesn't seem to be the answer. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I have the Tokyo HP HL-450B amplifier which is capable of 100% duty cycles on modes like AM, FM, RTTY etc with up to 40 watts drive but the manufacture recommends reducing drive about 20% on those modes.

Your amp is capable of the same but can take up to 80 watts drive on SSB but it is recommended to reduce drive by 40% for long continuous operations. This amp is not capable on 11 meter operations without some modification that isn't easily done and I assume yours is the same.

THP amplifiers met FCC requirements to be sold in the US to operate on 12 and 10 meters along with the other amateur bands with no easy out of band modification. There are no online out of band mods anyone has posted that I have seen.

Are you trying to use that amp on 11 meters? Just asking, That could be the problem.

Yep, 11-meters. I thought that might be the issue. Not going to mess around with this beautiful THP amp. Works flawlessly on in-band SSB. I have an "out of band" amp on the way, so not a big deal.
Thank you very much for the clarification!

That is a nice amp and they are well built and known to reliable. I'm sure if you wanted to sell it, somebody would like to have it.
