Okay, I've had other things going on and could not get back to this radio... and now that I have.... I am giving up for a little while until I "dream up" another path to go... which I am guessing will include a can of freeze spray!!!!!!!
Here is the deal:
I have now changed both D209 and D206 in the schematic snippet above. I had already replaced Q207 (the PNP pass transistor).
STILL FAILS THE SAME WAY!!!!! (works fine for several minutes then the two TX voltages (#8 and #9) drop to nothing and the voltages around Q207 go wonkey. If you turn the radio off for 2 or 3 minutes... it comes back on for a short time and then fails again. My thinking was that ONE of these components was thermal. Well it does not appear to be the case.
Voltage at CktTrace #5 stays good when the failure happens!!!!!!
So, to my thinking, everything UP TO AND INCLUDING Q206 is fine!!!!
THAT is what has me focused on everything in the schematic snippet I posted a few messages back! And my initial focus was on the solid state components in that circuit fed by Q206. As mentioned, I replaced Q207 first... no change. D209 next.... no change. D206 just this afternoon..... no change. I don't see anything else in there that I WOULD THINK would suffer heat/thermal issues like this.... but maybe I am wrong.
I am starting to think that maybe something "downstream" from #8 or #9 is going thermal and just pulling the two supplies down... and that is why I mentioned the freeze spray! It has been a while since I scoured the schematic but there are one or two solid state parts fed by these two supplies.... and maybe an electrolytic cap or two. I am starting to think that maybe one of those elements fed by #8 or possibly #9 are "thermally hosed" and are just pulling both supplies down.
But, I guess for right now, I am going to go perform a little inventory of my current liquor selections.... and see if anything comes to mind.
