Realistic TRC 453 CLARIFIER DOES NOTHING

While I'm here, anyone know where I can get a replacement part?
If your 453 is anything like the 451 I used to own, a standard 16mm pot with an M7 bushing will fit (can someone confirm?). Not sure of actuator length. Check out Digikey 987-1661-ND to see if it'll fit the bill.

Geez, the previous owner must have dropped this radio on its face/knobs. The doggone 1k RF gain pot I used for the clarifier fix went bad too. More hairline cracks right across the terminals to the carbon traces. The volume and squelch pots are real pots, not plastic PC mounts. And the mode switch now iffy too. Mode switching works but it seems its tied to the LED s meter, which is now not working either. Wiggling it earlier did make it work but not now. Cleaning it didn't help. I'm hoping bad solder and not a broken switch too. Oh fun fun fun.........

You're gonna love this. Well maybe some wont. Tried three different pots in that clarifier spot. All three gave me problems. Thats what happens using old old parts that kinda get butchered to fit the spot. OK. I don't use squelch. And just got dead frustrated fitting a pot in there with what I had. First off the squelch pot is a real pot. Not PC plastic yuck. And this tiny ssb radio will end up a bench test radio. So put a big solder blob across the squelch terminals to wire it always open. RF gain pot already wired max. Wired the squelch pot into the clarifier PC board points. DONE. Retuned the radio. DONE. Its working. Clarifier is the squelch position. RF gain and clarifier positions inop. DONE. Whew! Did I mention the radio is working.........
Oh, resoldered the mode switch and now the LED s-meter working.
Did I mention the radio is working..........

Does anyone even give a rip???
Well I dreamed about it all nite (yeah right). This morning figured out what the problem was. Reconnected the semi-original clarifier pot. I found a 1m pot, swapped the wiper board into the original pot housing. Realigned. Reconnected the squelch pot back to its original wiring. All is ok. Because of the 1m value, cannot set clarifier at 12, the 1m offsets the transmit zeroing. So have to live with clarifier zero is actually 3 o'clock. I could mess with the tx adjust trimmer value to zero up all, but not today. OK lock this thread so I cant enter more.
