I saw in an Ameritron ad somewhere that they were coming out with a new solid state 1200 watt amp. I don't see any info on their website. Anyone have any info?

Haven't heard anything about an Ameritron 1200 watt solidstate amplifier, but I wonder if that 1200 W is 'Bird' watts or 'Amertron' watts?

Aw forget it, it's been a long day...

Well, well, well....

Look what just showed up in the mail: A brand new Ameritron catalog:

BTW, if you click the thumbnail, it will bring up the ad. If you keep clicking on the picture, it will keep zooming in so you can read it.

I wonder what transistors are in that thing? The catalog ad says it operates at 50 volts, so it must be FETs. The ALS-500m uses 2SC2879's, but those aren't 50V devices. The ad also doesn't give the dimensions...I'm guessing it won't fit in my Jeep where I would wnat it ;)

Why that almost sounds like the thoughts of AMPOWER,.lol

"I wonder what transistors are in that thing?"
the add link you provided says "eight rugged MRF-150 power FET's " . the same FET's they use in their current 600 watt ALS-600S , but less of them .

says it needs 100 watts of drive to do the rated 1200 watts .
no mention of if the power ratings are bird watts or taken with a meter that mere mortals can afford . lol

Wish I hadn't made that 'bird/amatron' comment now, oh well.

I'm sure it will work, but $3K for 1200 watts? Somebody would have to want those watts a lot more than I do! Not to mention that a power supply isn't supplied with it, ouch. Also have a feeling that the "10-12"/MARS mod isn't going to be a 'little green wire'.
This amplifier is just starting the certification process so it'll be a while before it's actually for sale. Waiting with 'baited' breath...

I guess if I read the whole ad, it answers most of the questions p). Dimensions are 10Wx6.5Hx18D. Transistors in use are 8 MRF-150 FETs.

The power supply is shown in the bottom right of that ad segment. It comes with it. It also says the 10/12 meters mod is the same as the ALS-500...$29.95.

They have the same ports as the ALS-500 for using with a remote band switch, or you can use their auto bandswitch device. This amp doesn't look practical for a mobile install (the price doesn't make it practical for me!). You have to figure out how to get 50v to it, which would probably be easiest by using a power inverter capable up giving you 110v and about 30amps continuous so you can use Amertron's power supply. Then you have to figure out what to do with all that heat.

If you balk at the $2900 price tag, just remember its an amp with a power supply.

Just remember what a pain it is to run 13.8v pill on a base, and then it doesnt seem so bad.

Also, keep in mind that tokyo hi-power has a 2.5kw base pill amplifier, as well as 1.2kw and 1.1kw pill models. 50v SD2933 if i recall.

I just emailed mole today about that. I was waiting to see when they were doing the bigger solidstate amplifier. I know my ALS-600 runs 50Volts they are indeed fets and I can guarantee what they claim that amp to do with the propper setup it will do because this ALS-600 does all they said it would and it has a nice true peak reading meter in it although there were models that had the peak average meter.

If this is really happening Ill be allover it LMAO!!

Just beware the duty cycle rating on these amps for a given drive level...

The Tokyo is very well made, but look at its duty cycle rating at high power....particularly if you are an AMer, or long on the key at full drive you could cook that thing quickly.
