Having receiver audio problems with my 2959dx. All of a sudden it became distorted, with a static like sound. All though still understandable, the sound quality is very poor. Tried an external speaker , no improvement. Any suggestions ? Thanks, Fred

If it starts out poor, then gets better, try the heat-gun approach... there's an electrolytic capacitor that couples A.F. to the speaker from the audio IC. Try heating it up with a heat-gun, or a blow dryer if you don't a heat gun, and the audio should clear up within seconds, if it does, replace the electrolytic, and it will come back to life. Also, if you want a higher pitched receive, use a 470uf, if you want a more "bassy" sound, you can increase it to 1000uf. Either way use at least 16WV, but over 25 volts is not needed. Hope I helped.

Take care,

Justin

You might also try Richard Byrd at 8541 Electronics. He did up a 2950DX for me and the price was right and the radio was great!
