2sc2999 and Schottky diode mod

does anyone know if the 2sc2999 and Schottky diode swap for increased receive gain and less noise is just for am or does it help ssb too.
i read somewhere that it worked well for am but there was no benifit for ssb.
i have a dx 959 and i rarely talk on am anymore so i just wondered

    Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
